Our client is currently seeking a seasoned legal professional to join our dynamic team as a Senior Legal Counsel based in Lisbon, Portugal.Position Overview: As a Senior Legal Counsel specializing in the international upstream oil and gas sector, you will play a pivotal role in providing legal counsel and strategic guidance to our client's organization. Leveraging your extensive experience and expertise, you will support various legal matters related to exploration, production, and development activities worldwide.Key Responsibilities:Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice and support on a wide range of matters related to upstream oil and gas operations, including but not limited to exploration agreements, production sharing contracts, joint venture agreements, and regulatory compliance.Contract Negotiation and Drafting: Lead negotiations and draft complex legal agreements, ensuring alignment with company objectives and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This includes agreements with partners, contractors, suppliers, and government entities.Risk Management: Identify legal risks and opportunities associated with upstream activities, develop mitigation strategies, and implement risk management frameworks to safeguard the company's interests.Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of evolving legal and regulatory requirements in the international oil and gas industry, assess their impact on operations, and ensure proactive compliance measures are in place.Dispute Resolution: Manage and resolve legal disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsel.Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, external partners, government authorities, and industry associations to advance company objectives and protect its interests.Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of corporate policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance legal governance and promote a culture of integrity and ethics.Qualifications:LLB, LLD or recognized equivalent.Licensed to practice law in Portugal.Dual qualification in common law and civil law jurisdiction preferredMinimum of 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a focus on international upstream oil and gas law.Demonstrated expertise in negotiating and drafting complex legal agreements in the oil and gas sector, including production sharing contracts, joint venture agreements, and service contracts.Strong understanding of international oil and gas regulations, industry standards, and best practices.Proven track record in providing strategic legal advice, managing legal risks, and resolving disputes effectively.Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Why Join: Joining our client offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic and innovative organization at the forefront of the international upstream oil and gas industry.
