Admission Requirements:
M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Electronics Engineering or Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Physics Engineering with a grade point average not inferior to 14 in a 20 point scale, with a dissertation topic closely related to signal processing (e.g. point clouds signal processing, image or video processing, Lidar signal processing).
Preference will be given to candidates having a solid background in Digital Signal Processing with C/C++ or Matlab programming and providing evidence of self-motivation for scientific research and ability for working in close collaboration with other researchers. The candidates must be enrolled in a doctoral program.

Work Objectives:The PLIVE project has as its main objectives the development of technologies for the efficient and reliable representation, coding and quality evaluation of plenoptic information stored as 3D point clouds, light fields and digital holograms. The research activities to be carried out in the context of this grant will be focused on the problem of compressing 3D point clouds and light field images targeting high subjective quality of the reconstructed signals. The solutions developed will be showcased through demonstrations in a prototype platform and public presentations taking the form of oral communications and written reports as well as scientific papers to be submitted for publication in international journals.

Place of work:The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at Coimbra, under the supervision of Professor Luis A. da Silva Cruz.
Duration:9 months with the possibility of renewal. Start date: 1st of December 2020 (or soon thereafter).
Monthly Maintenance Allowance:1064,00 ? (net), according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment will be made by bank transfer.
Selection criteria:
Candidates will be evaluated on the four following dimensions
1. CV: Curriculum vitae evaluation based on submitted documents and publicly available information like scientific articles and citation reports (40%)
2. Profile: Adequacy of the candidate?s profile to the execution of the project task, with an evaluation based on the candidate?s recent work experience (30%)
3. Interview: Audience with the selection committee (20%)
4. English Language Proficiency: Evaluation of Fluency in English (10%)
The candidate with the highest total score (sum of the four scores) and with a score of at least 75% will be awarded the grant, provided all legal requirements are fulfilled.
